Soccer Season Begins

March 31, 2008 10:43 pm

This was actually the second week of soccer, but we were able to capture a few more pictures of the Speedy Geckos and Jaguars. Cooper and the Jaguars faced off against a team with the exact same colors. So after turning their uniforms inside out they set out to show how tough the Jaguars are. They fell a little short, but that didn’t stop them from having fun. Speaking of falling, that’s what Cooper spends much of his time doing. He wasn’t on the ground as much as he was in the first week, but he was still down there quite a bit. It must be the long grass.

He did manage to make some nice plays. You can see by this picture that he has beautiful form.

One would think that with the ball sitting a foot in front of the goal with no goalie in the way would lead to a sure goal. Well, not exactly. As you can clearly see from this picture there should have been a yellow card and a free kick awarded. Cooper is clearly being grabbed from behind. That’s the excuse I am using for the inexplicable miss of this shot. We’ll get ‘em next time Coop.

Emma and the Speedy Geckos were ready to go out and take it to the pink team. They played a very tough game, but came up a little shy of a victory. It was a fun game to watch. Emma has improved quite a bit since the last time she played. She is more aggressive and is known as the kid with the big kicks on the team. She hasn’t really figured out which foot to kick with because she kicks fairly well with each. I think sometimes she gets a little confused and doesn’t kick it quite as well as she could because she isn’t sure which one she is going to use. Regardless she was chosen to take most of the goal kicks and corner kicks.

She was real close to getting a goal again this week. She scored one in the first game.

She has also gotten a lot faster. As you can see in these pictures she has some good closing speed. She must take after her father. He was quite the soccer player at her age.

Meg enjoyed watching, sort of. She will probably be pretty good when she gets out there. She should be mixing it up on the pitch next year. She is starting to poop in the toilet more frequently these days which is a lot better than scoring goals. Hopefully she keeps it up.

What little studs! Glad to see someone’s kids have picked up the game. No soccer for us until the fall this year. And that Meg, she looks so grown-up. Glad to hear the toilet is becoming a bit more popular with her, and just in time! Love hearing about you guys. Take care!
